Soju’s First Commercial Model Transition: From Han So-hee to Kim Ji-won

Lotte Chilsung Beverage is gearing up to make a significant announcement as it shifts its first commercial model from Han So-hee to Kim Ji-won. Kim Ji-won, whose popularity surged due to her role in the drama “Queen of Tears,” has been chosen as the new face following Han So-hee’s tenure.

In the entertainment industry, there’s a prevailing notion that Han So-hee’s association with Ryu Jun-yeol might lead to a decrease in her advertising opportunities. However, the reality is a mix of truth and speculation. Han So-hee’s contract with NH Bank concluded in early March, coincidentally before the transit love affair became a topic of discussion. This led to rumors regarding her departure.

As an ad queen commanding an impressive modeling fee of 1.3 billion won annually, Han So-hee’s situation sparked curiosity, given that models and agencies typically prefer contract renewals. Notably, renowned figures like Lee Hyo-ri and Suzy have signed long-term contracts, ranging from two to five years. Yet, 9Ato, Han So-hee’s agency, clarified that her contract expiration was unrelated to her personal life.

The transition also impacted platforms like Hey Dealer, a used car trading platform featuring Han So-hee. The platform faced challenges with managing YouTube comments, which led to speculations about a potential replacement strategy.

However, according to a representative, there are no plans to replace Han So-hee. The agency owner admires her, and the ad concept was crafted in a cinematic and luxurious manner to highlight her appeal.

Despite the challenges posed by recent events, Han So-hee remains a sought-after model with numerous endorsements, maintaining over 20 ads and securing the highest modeling fee in Korea, excluding luxury brands. Her peer, Jun Ji-hyun, shares a similar appeal, translating topicality into tangible sales. Currently, Go Youn-jung is identified as a rising threat in the modeling industry.

While Han So-hee may have faced setbacks due to her personal life’s scrutiny, she is determined to maintain her status as an ad queen. As observed with recent dramas featuring Han Ga In, actresses rely on TV exposure and visibility to sustain their presence in advertising, highlighting the importance of ongoing work engagements for Han So-hee’s career trajectory.
