Hallyu Icon G-Dragon Denies Involvement in Art Auction Controversy

Renowned Hallyu star G-Dragon found himself at the center of a recent art auction controversy surrounding his painting “Youth is Flower.” The auction, scheduled by Seoul Auction, was abruptly canceled, leading to speculations and inquiries regarding the circumstances.

G-Dragon’s agency released a statement clarifying that the artist was not aware of the situation surrounding the auction of “Youth is Flower.” The agency stated, “After checking with the artist, the artist himself did not submit the work to the auction. The artist has no knowledge of who submitted the work and under what circumstances.”

The agency further revealed that they are conducting an investigation into the distribution channels and owners of the artwork to ascertain the details of how the painting ended up at the auction without G-Dragon’s consent.

The controversy arose when Seoul Auction initially announced the inclusion of G-Dragon’s artwork “Youth Is Flower” in its upcoming Contemporary Art Sale, setting a starting price of 30 million won. However, on the same day, the auction was called off by the owner, raising questions about the legitimacy of the auction process.

“Youth Is Flower” is a piece created by G-Dragon, showcasing his artistic talents through spray paint and marker on steel panels. The artwork was originally part of the interior design for “2017 Untitled” (GD Cafe) during G-Dragon’s tenure as a brand ambassador for Jeju Shinhwa World in 2017. The painting features G-Dragon’s signature daisy flower and other artistic elements.

Apart from his musical endeavors, G-Dragon is known for his passion for art and has been recognized as one of the “50 Notable Collectors” by the American art magazine Artnews in 2019. Currently, G-Dragon is focused on working on his highly anticipated new solo album, showcasing his multifaceted talents across various creative domains.
